Multi-year partnership brings financial literacy, tax preparation, and long-term financial planning to Badger athletes — delivering on the promise programs make to the families who trust them.
MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin is investing in the long-term well-being of its student-athletes, announcing a multi-year partnership with Scout, a financial technology company committed to athlete empowerment and education. The partnership will give Badger athletes financial literacy education, hands-on tax preparation, and the tools to build a secure financial future — on campus and long after.
For Wisconsin, the partnership is an extension of a promise. When a program recruits a student-athlete, it makes a commitment to the athlete’s family: that their son or daughter will be supported, developed, and cared for. In an era where athletes are earning real money for the first time, that promise now includes their financial well-being. Partnering with Scout is how Wisconsin ensures the families who entrusted their athletes to the program can be confident those athletes are set up to succeed, not just while they compete, but for life.
Through the collaboration, Wisconsin athletes gain access to Scout’s full athlete platform: personalized financial literacy education, one-on-one support, professional tax preparation, and a secure mobile app to manage taxes, savings, LLC formation, and long-term planning. It is comprehensive support designed to turn today’s earnings into lasting financial health.
The partnership arrives as financial literacy for college athletes moves from a best practice toward a legal expectation. In Washington, the bipartisan HUSTLE Act would create tax-advantaged accounts to help athletes invest their earnings, with financial education written into its purpose. In California, legislators have advanced a proposal requiring a recurring financial-literacy curriculum for NIL athletes. The direction is clear: as athletes earn, lawmakers increasingly agree they must also be taught to manage what they make — and Wisconsin is ahead of it.
“The programs that get this right treat financial education as part of taking care of their athletes, not an afterthought,” said Michael Haddix Jr., CEO and Founder of Scout. “Wisconsin gets it.
They understand that protecting an athlete’s financial future is part of the commitment they made to that athlete’s family, and we’re proud to help them keep it.”
